7 inspiring web apps developed in React

Scroll down to find out why React is such a popular framework to build high performing web applications.

If you are facing the decision of choosing the tech stack for your web application, surely you’ve already heard of React.js. It’s a library that reigns supreme among front-end technologies, but have you ever wondered why businesses chose it?

We decided to take a look at several web applications built with React and analyzed how the companies benefit from this solution, so if you are looking for some inspiration, then read on.

Why companies use React for web app development?

React.js (or React, for short) is a Javascript library for creating user interfaces. It’s considered to be one of the most modern front-end libraries and one of the most popular Javascript ones, as well.

To be precise, in the 2022 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, React.js turned out to be the second most popular framework for developing a web application according to answers by all respondents, and the one most loved and wanted by developers. React actually completed its fifth year being among the most wanted frameworks and technologies for web development.

And businesses love React as well: according to SimilarTech data, it’s currently used on over a million websites. These are only some of the reasons why:

Scalability. React was made by Facebook to rewrite its giant and ever-growing social networks, so it can support large web applications by design.

Reusability. The possibility to reuse code components saves time, speeds up the development process, increases the productivity of programmers, and, as a result, reduces the time-to-market.

No more page reloading. The use of components has also another advantage that greatly improves the user experience: the page doesn’t have to reload every time the user interacts with an element of the app. With React, only the given component is re-rendered to respond to the user’s action, and the rest of the page remains the same. This makes the browsing experience way smoother and uninterrupted.

Backed by tech giant. Businesses have the guarantee that React components will continue to be supported and developed because it’s a crucial element of Facebook’s technology stack.

Robust community. Why should this matter for businesses? Well, a strong open-source community actually is a great advantage as it helps programmers in the transition period when using a new language, and don’t forget that even experienced developers often need support. Thanks to the extended network of React developers they can get their problems solved in no time, so delays in the development process are minimal.

React has a relatively small API, and its syntax is easy to understand and learn. This makes building a React app a good choice for beginners who want to get started with web app development.

And last but not least, React has a younger brother, React Native, that can be used to develop cross-platform mobile applications.

However, you surely would like to see React in action. So, to give you some inspiration to create your own React app, below we share a hand-picked list of top-notch web applications based on this library. In fact, you are probably already using a React app without knowing it!

Dropbox: file sharing with React

A couple of years ago, the cloud-based file sharing service Dropbox switched to React.js. The platform boasts 600 million users and 1.2 billion files uploaded to Dropbox… daily! Its tech stack has to support this enormous traffic and data flow, as well as allow for fast growth and easy scaling, so React was a natural choice. Thanks to this decision, Dropbox can benefit from features such as code components to increase the efficiency of development and therefore, grow the platform way faster.

ClearScore: keeping track of your credit history

Being one of the UK’s fastest-growing FinTechs and providing 11 million users globally with access to their full credit history, ClearScore has to use cutting-edge tech to keep up with such a demand. For the client-facing side, they opted for using Atomic Design methodology, together with… React, obviously!

Tresilio: monitoring mental wellbeing

Tresilio is a modern React app aiming for improving mental health, created by Psyomics, a biotechnology company backed by the authority of the University of Cambridge professor. We had the pleasure to contribute to this project by designing the user interface and created the web app for the MVP stage.

Using React components was crucial for the success of this project. Reusable components helped us to create the MVP of the web app quickly. In the next stage, it could be easily transformed into a native mobile app.

You can learn more about the challenges of this project and how we solved them reading the case study: highly recommended!

Asana: organizing projects and tasks

This well-known project management software is used by millions of people across the world, including employees of multinational corporations. With Asana, users can track their work and progress in projects, plan tasks, and collaborate with others.

A good project management tool has to make things easier and not complicate the work more than it’s necessary, so the UI of the application has to be seamless. Back in 2016, the Asana development team realized that as their solution was scaling up and the userbase was growing rapidly, they couldn’t achieve the necessary performance with the in-house framework they have been using so far: Luna.

That’s why they finally decided to rewrite the client-facing side of the app with React. And the rest is history: now, we can appreciate the outcome by using Asana without any issues in performance or user experience.

Kyruus: booking medical appointments made easier

Kyruus is another React app – healthcare provider data management platform that optimizes the process of matching patients with providers in the US. The solutions implemented by this startup greatly improve the patient experience across different touchpoints, including call centers, websites, and offline.

To do so, Kyruus has to integrate data from multiple sources and provide user interfaces that will satisfy the needs of both patients and healthcare providers. React.js greatly contributes to the growth of the platform thanks to its manifold advantages.

DAZN: entertaining millions of sports fans

DAZN is a sports broadcasting platform that delivers live or on-demand content to over 400 million sports fans monthly across 37 markets and counting. The DAZN engineering team declares to be very fond of open-source software, so it’s no wonder that they use React for the front-end of their application.

Moreover, DAZN developers are avid members of the open-source communities and frequently participate and speak at industry events, for instance, React.js Girls London, React Day, or React Europe Paris, to mention a few. This way, they want to give back to the community that helped them build this excellent software and inspire more companies to follow their steps.

Now you are fully aware of the amazing applications that can be created using React. Indeed, it’s a great framework that allows many companies to modernize their tech stack and provide better solutions for their users.
